COURSE INFORMATION
Course Markings
The swim course will be marked by buoys; swimmers are to turn right on the outside of each buoy. The bike and run courses will be have mile markers at each mile and white arrow signs indicating turns. Volunteers and police will be strategically placed to help direct traffic and participants. All courses will be shutdown at 12 Noon; all participants still racing by this time will need to run/bike on sidewalks and obey all traffic laws in order to finish.
Transition Areas
The Rush Triathlon uses two transition areas that will offer hydration, fruit, restrooms, and medical assistance. Transition 1 (T1): Swimmers will transition from swim to bike at the southeast corner of RainbowLake. Transition 2 (T2): Bikers will transition from bike to run at the Madison High School playing fields.
Transition areas will open for set-up at 5:00 a.m. and will close at 7:15 a.m. (Everyone must be setup by 7:15 a.m.) We encourage the participants to set up their gear early at T2 first and then T1, leaving them at the lake and ready to start. We will allow athletes to use the southeast corner of the lake as a drop-off area for T1 until 6:45 a.m.; after that time participants will have to park and walk their gear to T1 (1.4 mile walk). We ask that the sprint participants clear T1 at 7:15 a.m. for the intermediate race.
Both transition areas will have an aid station with water, sports drink, fruit, and first aid kits. Transition areas are for athletes only; family, friends, coaches, and trainers of runners are not allowed in the area. Volunteers will be available for stripping of wetsuits and other assistance. Associates of the participants may enter the transition area only to pick up gear once the area has been cleared and by presenting a “transition pass” (transition pass included in race packet). It is the participant’s responsibility to clear both transition areas of their gear. Race staff will not transport gear from T1 to T2.
A one-way shuttle is available to transport participants from Madison High School to RainbowLake. This service will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon on the corner of 4th East and 2nd North.
Swimming
The swimming portion of the race will take place at RainbowLake Campground. This is a private lake and no swimming/training is allowed prior to or after the race. Wetsuits are recommended but not required; water temperatures range from 67-73 degrees. Parking will be located north of the lake and camping are, expect a 1/3 mile walk from parking area to transition area.
Intermediate swimmers will start at 7:00 a.m. at the northeast corner of the lake (1/4 mile walk from transition area) and sprint swimmer will start at 8:00 a.m. at the southwest corner of the lake (1/8 mile walk from transition area). The Sprint race will have two start; Males at 8:00 a.m. and females at 8:10 a.m.
Swimmers will swim the perimeter of the lake, staying on the outside of the buoys. The exit of the lake, for both races, will be at the southeast corner.
THINGS NOT ALLOWED IN THE LAKE: personal support boat or swimmer; motorized or non-motorized floatation device; foot or hand fins; animals/pets. Official boats and swimmers will be placed in the lake to assist swimmers in distress.
Biking
The biking portion of the race will start at the North-east corner of Rainbow Lake. It will take the racers along the Rexburg Bench through the farming lands and finish at the Madison High School. Athletes will experience big climbs/hills, city and country roads, and scenic vistas. Any single-person, man-powered bicycle is allowed; road bikes are highly recommended.
When leaving Transition 1, intermediate bikers will head south and sprint bikers will head north from the lake. Bike must be mounted outside of transition area.
Mile markers and arrows signs will ensure that the bikers are on the right course. Please use caution when crossing railroad tracks, and taking sudden turns after cruising downhill. There will be no water, food, or port-a-potties provided on the bike course; bikers must provide their own water and food.
A motorcycle will guide the lead bike to assure safety. Police, paramedics, volunteers, and bike support will be stationed throughout the course to direct traffic and assist athletes.

The running course will start and finish at the Madison High School Football Stadium. Runners will experience a variety of neighborhoods, trails, farmland, and race track. A portion of the course is on a challenging and narrow double-track dirt trail while gaining elevation.
Mile markers and arrow signs will ensure that the runners are on the right course. Water, fruit and a port-a-potty will be available when the dirt trail meets Millhollow Rd. Paramedics and volunteers will be stationed throughout the course to help out any athlete in distress.
